FOOT CARE IN DIABETICS

One of the most important things in Diabetic care is foot care.Most diabetics whose blood sugars  not controlled or who have not been diagnosed yet present in Opds with tingling and numbness of feet.They also complain of cramps at night or decreased sensation of the soles.They may injuire themselves due to numbness or can develop cracks in feet due to dry skin and won’t be aware as pain sensation is less. Hence it is very important to know about foot care in diabetics

1.Daily..check for cuts,redness,blisters and cracks..Don’t ignore redness as it is sign of an underlying infection.

2.Wash feet in warm water and dry thoroughly specially in between toes and any folds of skin on ankle  and apply moisturizers and trim toenails straight..incurved nails can cause infections 

3.wear good shoes and do not walk barefoot on uneven rocky ground 

4.Get foot exams done every year and neurological exam of feet to be done as part of health checks to detect even the tiniest loss of sensation

5.B12 containing food and supplements to be used regularly 

6.corns and calluses should be attended by a doctor to prevent accidental injury by self 

7.Keep blood sugars within normal limits always
