Diabetes and Exercise

Hello, I’d like to share how regular exercise has played a vital role in managing my diabetes and improving my overall health. When I was first diagnosed, I felt like I lost it all. I worried that I’ll not be able to live normal life. But over time, I discovered that staying active can solve the problem to large extent.
Here’s what worked for me:
1. Starting Small: I began with light activities like walking for 20-30 minutes after meals. It not only helped control my blood sugar levels but also gave me a sense of accomplishment and boosted my mood. Walking became my go-to activity because it’s easy and doesn’t require any special equipment.
2. Yoga: A few months later, I started practicing yoga. It helped me stay flexible, reduced my stress levels, and improved my blood circulation.
3. Strength Training: As I grew more confident, I included light strength training, that helps build muscle, which in turn improves how the body uses insulin.
4. Monitoring Sugar Levels: Before starting any exercise, I made sure to check my sugar levels to avoid lows or highs. Keeping a snack handy during workouts also helped me feel prepared for any sudden dips.
5. Consistency is Key: Its super important to keep monitoring carb intake, exercise, and insulin intake, consistent.
With above in daily practice, I have regained my usual life. Yes, its extra precaution, extra control on diet, extra effort than non-diabetic person, but so be it. I am ready to put extra effort to lead a healthy life. So, I believe you are, isn’t it?

  1. That is great to know that you have managed to control diabetes with diet and exercise. For those who have never exercised starting small should be 5-7 min post every meal slowly increasing to max of 10 min.Too much exercise can cause rebound hyperglycaemia–the fall in sugar level post exercise is so much that body pulls out sugar or glucose from stored reserves and it reflects as increased sugars on checking .so moderation is always the key
