Hi everyone, I want to share an experience of herniated disc (commonly called a slip disc) that I encountered around 22-23 years ago.
I experienced pain and numbness that radiated from my lower back down to my left leg and even to my toes. I was confined to bed for about 2-3 months. With medications and light exercises prescribed by my doctor, I began to regain mobility and could manage daily tasks.
I was advised to avoid lifting heavy weights, intensive exercise, or any activity that might strain my back. I had to quit playing which was my passion. For the next couple of years, I lived cautiously, always mindful to avoid sudden movements or jerks. The pain would ebb and flow, and I often wore a belt for support when going out.
A few years later, I decided to try gentle stretching exercises. At first, it was painful, but I noticed slight improvements the day after each session. Encouraged, I made stretching a regular part of my routine, and slowly but surely, I started to feel stronger.
As I continued these exercises, the pain reduced significantly. Eventually, I started playing tennis too.
Along the way, I discovered specific stretches that strengthened my muscles and improved my posture, which in turn helped alleviate the pain. It was a challenging time that taught me resilience and the importance of taking care of my body.
Occasionally, I still experience pain, but it’s usually when I’ve skipped my exercises for a few days. As long as I maintain my routine, it’s all fine.
If anyone needs guidance or wants to know more about the exercises and practices that worked for me, feel free to reach out. I’d be more than happy to share.
