Last month, I went for a routine health check-up and discovered that my cholesterol levels were higher than normal: Total Cholesterol: 277 ; Triglycerides: 240 ; HDL: 37 ; LDL: 192
The doctor prescribed medication and advised me to take it for two months. I started taking the medicine but hesitated after hearing from someone that once you start cholesterol medication, you might become dependent on it for life. I was suggested to try natural methods instead, like avoiding fried, oily, and packaged foods etc. I also heard that eating garlic in the morning could help.
So, while continuing the medication (though not daily), I started incorporating these natural changes into my routine.
Last week, I brought this up with a trusted local doctor, who mentioned, while high cholesterol is concerning, high triglycerides are more harmful. Also, that one major cause of high triglycerides is wheat flour, which is high in gluten. I was advised to replace plain wheat flour with a mix of multigrain flour, including cereals like pearl millet, flaxseed, finger millet, barley, etc. I’ve since started making this switch.
I firmly believe that natural methods are the best way to manage health parameters, but I also acknowledge how challenging it can be to stick to these practices given our modern lifestyles.
Any experience with managing cholesterol or triglycerides strictly through natural means or medication? Would appreciate any advice or insights.
