Symptoms: For the past several weeks, I’ve been experiencing persistent tiredness in my eyes, dryness, and mild headaches. I was fairly certain these symptoms were connected to my eyes. The discomfort became more noticeable after long hours of working on my laptop, but even during breaks, pressing around my eyes intensified the feeling.
I’ve always worn glasses while using my laptop, but the symptoms persisted despite this habit.
Diagnosis : Concerned, I decided to consult an eye doctor for a thorough checkup. Fortunately, there were no serious issues, and my prescription hadn’t changed significantly. Nonetheless, I opted for a new pair of progressive lenses from a reputed brand, Crizal Epro, hoping they might help. However, there wasn’t any immediate significant improvement.
After discussing my condition with the doctor and lens specialist, I learned that my symptoms were primarily due to dry eyes and weakened eye muscles.
Challenges: Being in the IT industry, avoiding screens isn’t an option. My daily screen time often stretches to 12-14 hours, including time spent on my laptop, mobile phone, and TV.
What Worked for Me : After some self-study and following my doctor’s advice, I implemented the following strategies that have significantly improved my condition:
1. Wearing Glasses Continuously: Ensuring I wear my glasses throughout the day to reduce strain.
2. Using Eye Drops: Applying Optisoft eye drops 2-3 times a day to combat dryness.
3. Taking Frequent Breaks: Closing my eyes for 1-2 minutes every 30 minutes during screen use.
4. Practicing Eye Exercises: Doing simple exercises like focusing on the tip of a pen as I move it closer to and farther from my eyes.
5. Reducing Screen Time: Making a conscious effort to limit unnecessary screen exposure whenever possible.

These are common problems for all persons working with computer.
Pont no 3 is the best solution
Apart from this while taking break we should look outside window to a longer object like tree or farthest object. This helps in maintaining the vision bothe near and far. By continuously looking at computer we find difficult to see farthest object . And affects long vision and become problem specially while driving.
✅️ sounds right. That shall help. Looking at laptop for Long time is straining eyes for short distance. Looking at distance shall maintain vision between short and long distance. Thanks.
Dryness in eyes is a lifestyle problem, and as you rightly said, because of prolonged screen time.
Apart from other things you mentioned, you can try Warm Compresses. That works wonders.
I am not a big fan of using eye drops, until unless there is no other option left, because once you start using eye drops, it generally has to be used lifelong.
Really? I wasn’t aware that using eye drops once also becomes lifelong dependency. Thanks. What is Warm Compress?
The eye drops for dryness is basically an artificial tear which, as far as my understanding goes, has to be administered life long.
A warm compress is simply applying warm heat to eyes. Soak a clean cloth in warm water and apply the cloth to the eyes. It gives a good relief.
Great. Will do.
Yes more screentime is the main cause. It cause dryness as well as reduce the natural fluid of eyes..
the same happens with me also.. for that i also favour lubricating eye drops like itone..
But now i will also try warm compress as i read in other feedbacks
